Early Purse Releases
Cloverleaf S.O.A. has developed an Early Purse Release Program with each racetrack for our members to receive purse checks before the labs and racing commission has officially released the checks. All programmed owners and trainers must be Cloverleaf S.O.A. members to be eligible. Members must also fill out any applicable paperwork with horsemen’s bookkeepers at each track.
Life Insurance
Cloverleaf S.O.A. offers its members that are drivers, grooms, and/or trainers life insurance through State Farm. For breeders, drivers, grooms, and
trainers under the age of 65 the policy is for $25,000. For breeders, drivers, grooms, and trainers ages 65-69 the life insurance is lowered to $15,000.
Cloverleaf S.O.A. worked with State Farm and has added a final expense policy for members over the age of 65 for an additional $10,000 for which you may be eligible and for which Cloverleaf S.O.A. would pay the premium. Enrolled members’ beneficiary will receive $10,000 in benefits.

Rolling Equipment Insurance
Cloverleaf S.O.A. offers Rolling Equipment (sulkies & jog carts) for member owned sulkies and jog carts. To be eligible all programmed owners and trainers MUST BE Cloverleaf S.O.A. members at the time of the incident leading to the claim. Coverage is for damages done at Ocean Downs and Rosecroft while warming up, official schooling sessions (with gate in use), post parades, races or qualifiers. Cloverleaf S.O.A. will pay up to $2,000 per bike and $200 per wheel with a minimum of $25 to a maximum of $2,400.
Third Party Liability
3rd party liability insurance from H.H.I. that provides coverage against damages that your horse may cause to some other person or person’s property. Must occur at a pari-mutuel racetrack, county fair racetrack, or approved training center which must be listed on your membership.
Limits
- Limited Mortality – Limits
- $15,000 maximum for any one “HORSE” of standard registration which has attained the age of two (2) years old and has raced sufficiently as to have established his own racing qualifications or credibility.
- $5,000 per any one “HORSE” of standard registration if the animal is two (2) years of age and is at the time of the loss, currently engages in race training but has not yet started in an actual event.
- $5,000 for any “YEARLING” purchased at public sale or auction during 9/1 – 12/31
- $350,000 aggregate for any one covered loss from and/or related to any one occurrence. $2,000,000 aggregate per policy year, the most that will be paid under the Inland Marine / Animal Mortality and owned equipment form in one policy year.

- $5,000,000 General Aggregate other than Products / Completed Operations.
- $1,000,000 Products / Completed Operations Aggregate
- $1,000,000 Personal and Advertising Injury Limit.
- $1,000,000 Each Occurrence.
- $100,000 Damage to Premises rented to you. Any one premise.
- $5,000 Medical Expenses. Any one person.
- Owned Horse Equipment Coverage Form – Limits
- $3,000 for tack per horse for any covered loss.
- $10,000 maximum per loss per member for tack. Tack must be owned by member owning the horse.

Who’s Covered?

Where am I covered?

While Stabled at approved tracks and training facilities on file with Markel specifically scheduled (listed) on the policy or approved by Markel and added by endorsement. - Third Party Liability Coverage
Anywhere you conduct the business of racing or race training in US and Canada. NOTE: No participant coverage for liability on the track while racing or training.
Is my horse covered while being transported (referred to as “transit coverage”)?
- Limited Mortality Coverage
Subject to all other terms, conditions – coverage applies while an eligible horse is being transported to or from any United States Trotting Association (USTA) track, Canadian Trotting Association (CTA) track, or approved training facility on file with Markel.

- Excess over any other valid or collectible insurance (IL-1201) 11-85
- No Coverage for member who owns more than 25 “HORSES” as defined in the policy

Is there coverage for liability which arises out of an accident on the track?

- Third Party Liability – No. Exclusion G. Athletic or Sports participants. This insurance does not apply to “Bodily Injury” to any person while practicing for, instructing, or participating in any sport, athletic contest, exhibition – Refer to MGL, 181 pages 3-11 for complete wording.

- Training Centers: As a member, is my standardbred horse covered under the limited mortality coverage anywhere it is stabled?
No, the track of training center must be listed (scheduled) on the policy. (Limited Horse Mortality)
- Training Centers: If I am at USTA/CTA track and transporting my “HORSE” back to my farm, do I have coverage if the horse is killed in an auto accident?

Yes, eligiblity criteria is number of “HORSES” you own, lease or rent, up to 25 horses. No Coverage for a member that owns mroe than 25 horses under the liability section of the policy.
