FORT WASHINGTON, Md. — Taking advantage of a pocket trip behind a hot pace, Walden Woods rolled to a 9-1 upset in Monday’s (Feb. 3) featured $10,000 winners-over pace at Rosecroft Raceway.
Justin Walters secured the pocket with Walden Woods and stalked Don’tmesswithles (driven by Roger Plante Jr.) through blistering fractions of :25.3, :54.2 and 1:21.4 before angling out of the pocket just before the eighth pole. The 7-year-old Betting Line-Artomatic Love gelding responded at first asking, sprinting clear of Don’tmesswithles to win by a widening 1-3/4 lengths and tying his lifetime mark of 1:51. Coligny Hanover (Eric Davis) rallied up the pegs from off the pace to finish third, another 4-1/2 lengths behind.
Samuel Young owns and trains Walden Woods, a 28-time winner who paid $20.00 to win.
Russell Foster led all drivers with three wins on the 14-race card.
Live racing returns to Rosecroft on Wednesday (Feb. 5) with a 13-race program and a $394.09 carryover in the Jackpot Hi-5 (race 10). First post is 7:15 p.m. For free past performance pages and handicapping analysis for each night’s races, visit www.rosecroft.com.
