Plante, leaving from post seven, secured the pocket ride behind pacesetter Fancy Like That, and while Marylands’s top 3-year-old filly faded against older mares, Plante sent his charge to the passing lane where she exploded with pace and held off the heavy favorite Got The Gold who had massive traffic issues trying to rally from fifth.
It was the fourth win of the year for the daughter of Rockincam, who is owned by Michael Somerville and trained by Rusty Cox. She set a new lifetime mark of 1:53 in the process.
Marylands’s top two freshman fillies both found the winner’s circle as William Carter won with Toys Little Tinker and Trae Porter picked up one of his two wins with the sensational Ragtime Red. The daughter of Getitoffyourchest stopped the clock in 1:52.3, just three-fifths off the all-time 2-year-old mark that has stood since 1998 when George Brennan won with Falcon’s Icon in 1:52.
Frank Milby swept the late double, Justin Walters bagged two wins. Trainer Michael Hall won three times, while Jason Walters conditioned two winners on the card.
